Christmas

Quickly my sharp eyes snap open
I hear the ticking of my clock
As my sleepy mind slowly processes what day it is
I am hit with a surge of happiness and excitement
It's Christmas. Finally.
I jump out of bed and land on the floor with a soft thud
I see my bedroom door slowly swinging open
The floorboard creaks as I quietly step down the stairs
In the living room my goal lies
Both my parents are soundly sleeping under their bed sheet
I hear the crackling of the living room fire
As I tiptoe towards the Christmas tree
I see them: the gifts that occupy my mind so much
that I do not realize the footsteps coming down the stairs.
